Independent shore-entry guide

Snorkeling in Aruba without a boat

A boat is optional. Boca Catalina and Tres Trapi both provide shore access, while guided shore tours add orientation and equipment without turning the trip into a sail.

Two documented shore entries

At Boca Catalina, walk down the roadside steps and enter from the sandy beach. At Tres Trapi, descend the rock-cut steps and use the small sandy opening between the rocks.

Both routes continue into open water and require a same-day conditions check. A shore entry does not mean a protected pool or a supervised swimming area.

Independent swim or guided shore tour?

An independent visit may fit capable open-water swimmers who can assess the entry, identify boundaries and keep a clear return line. A shore guide may better fit first-time visitors, uncertain swimmers or anyone who wants equipment, flotation, individual pacing or underwater media.

No boat does not mean no guide, and booking a guide does not guarantee turtles.

What to bring

Arrive with a properly fitted mask, snorkel and fins, drinking water, sun protection and flotation appropriate to the swimmer. Do not assume Tres Trapi has a rental counter, lifeguard, restroom, food or shade; verify any required service before leaving.

Getting there

A rental car offers flexibility, and regulated taxis use fixed fares. Arubus routes travel from Oranjestad along the hotel strip toward Arashi, but check the current map and nearest stop rather than assuming either snorkeling entry has direct service.
