Tommy brings two years of snorkeling in the Maldives and a year and a half of daily snorkeling with sea turtles in Aruba. Use two sunrise-relative stops: start at Boca Catalina at sunrise, then visit Tres Trapi four hours after sunrise. This is firsthand route guidance—not a promise about wildlife or water conditions.

Responsible snorkeling
Aruba’s tourism authority asks swimmers to keep at least two metres away. If you have to follow a turtle to stay near it, you are chasing it.
Stay calm, keep the route to the surface clear and let the animal choose the distance.
Avoid stepping on seagrass, coral or marine life. Enter only where the substrate is safe.
Wind, waves, current and boat traffic can turn a simple swim into open-water risk.

Arubus L10A follows the hotel coastal strip between Oranjestad and Arashi. Check the current map and nearest stop before leaving.
Current Arubus routesThe most flexible way to follow the sunrise strategy. At Tres Trapi, large rocks block the former interior parking area. Parking is now roadside only, and there are often no spaces available. Allow extra time and use only permitted spaces.
Directions to Boca CatalinaAruba uses regulated fixed fares. Confirm the rate first and use a vehicle displaying an official TX plate.

Boca Catalina and Tres Trapi are both useful. This guide recommends Boca Catalina around sunrise, then Tres Trapi about four hours after sunrise, based on firsthand guide observation. Sightings are never guaranteed.
Not necessarily if you are a capable open-water swimmer who can judge conditions and navigate responsibly. A guide adds local orientation, safety support, equipment and—on some products—transport or underwater media.
The water can look calm, but it is still open sea and the rock-cut entry can be awkward. Beginners should choose a small-group product with instruction and flotation, and stay ashore when conditions exceed their ability.
